🦋 IC Information

Character Name: Yuri
Age: 18ish
Canon: Gnosia (anime)
Canon Point: beginning of Episode 17
Character History: Yuri on the Gnosia wiki. Episode Synopsis on wikipedia, as Yuri's page only goes up to Episode 4 and the individual Episode pages are pretty long.
Canon Abilities: -Time travel. Yuri is parasitized by a creature known as a Silver Key, which forces them to time loop a set number of days in order to gather information. This allows them to avoid death by essentially traveling to an alternate universe, though they have no control over where they go or when it happens. When the Key is filled up with all the information it wants, it is able to open the door to another dimension, though there is no way for them to finish filling it up since they're removed from the events of canon.
-Intuition. Yuri is very good at being able to tell when someone is lying (though not necessarily what they're lying about). The canon is kind of unclear on if this is just really well-honed human intuition presented in a noticeable way (a sort of visual ghosting effect that only Yuri can see), or if this is closer to some kind of sixth sense? In practice I would just have it function like the former, but I thought I'd let you guys know and be the judge.
Inventory: A blank, green notebook, a mechanical pencil, and a hairtie in their pocket.

🦋 Personality

Option 1: Answer the following questions. Elaborate on the answer, especially your characters thoughts and feelings surrounding the answer. For Canon Characters, you can choose four questions. For Original Characters, you will need to choose six questions. Keep the word count to 150-400 per question.
  1. What mythological creature would your character most like to be? Which do they identify with? Which would they dread being? Feel free to use our Bestiary for reference.

  2. Yuri is almost literally a functional changeling; they are an unnatural copy of the real Yuri, created when the other is (depending on the timeline) killed by the Gnosia by a greater being for their own ends and amusement. This is also kind of what they dread the most-- they've (sort of) accepted being a copy, but they dread the fact that their existence is a danger to the people they know and care about. When confronted with the fact that their very existence destroys the universe, they try to kill themself, confident that the real Yuri is the one that deserves to live, and the only way out is to remove themself from the equation. They would dread being the kind of mimic or changeling that feeds off of those around them, hurting or draining others just to sustain their own unnatural existence. They are also, in a way, doing exactly this; as far as they know, they exist only when the Gnosia infect the ship, which inevitably leads to people's death, suffering or indoctrination (if they're the Gnosia), and cannot exist outside of that time loop without destroying the universe (or potentially worse, given their alleged creation by the Gnos, the being that creates the Gnosia).
They would most like to be something like a nagual; a literal guardian spirit. They would love to be able to have the power to protect people, even if they haven't figured out what was going on. Hell, they wouldn't even have a problem with the literal aspects of the nagual, being one half of somebody else that only exists to protect them; in a way, that would be their best case scenario for coexistence with the real Yuri. They feel deeply that the real Yuri is the one that deserves to exist... but they still have a bit of selfishness, not necessarily wanting to stop existing, but unable to think of another solution, and unwilling to sacrifice the real one so they can live. And, there are also way more people than just one that they would want to protect-- and if it's to protect people they care about, or even just someone they know is innocent, they're not afraid to play a little dirty if it's for a good cause... if they manage to think of it fast enough. Though they're by no means cutthroat, just sneaky.

  3. If there's one person your character would follow to another realm, who would it be and why? If there's no one, state that and explain why.

  4. Setsu, without a doubt. Given their weird existence/memory situation, Setsu is the first person they'd ever known. They were the first person to show them kindness, to wake them up from the medical pod and explain what's going on, trying to help them in the middle of a terrifying situation. They're the one that gave Yuri the Silver Key, effectively saving their life, and have been the one they instinctually want to lean on, even when Setsu tells them not to (given the Spot the Imposter situation). They understand how it feels going through the loops, and Yuri rarely has to explain it to them. Probably the only reason they don't rely on Setsu like a lost dog more is because Setsu explicitly tell them not to. Yuri is, implicitly, an extremely trusting person; or at least, someone that optimistically wants to trust and believe in people, and Setsu is basically the peak of who they want to believe in; someone calm, cool, and able to discern the truth while sticking to their guns. They always want to trust them, and they want them to be okay-- they even sacrifice an entire world line, agreeing to let both of them be put into cold sleep in order to essentially take a day off and make Setsu smile (something Setsu also does not entirely approve of, though Yuri is a bit too single-person, trees-for-the-forest-focused to agree with their objection). It's appropriate to call it a codependent relationship, though Yuri tries to be self-sufficient, but they're too much of a bleeding heart to really get there. They in fact try to follow Setsu into another universe; when their Key is complete, and it opens the way to another universe, they both try and stop Setsu from leaving them, and tries to go with them, both of which Setsu refutes. Even when Setsu is a Gnosia, and thus technically their enemy, they trust and follow them without question-- they are a person ruled by emotion, rather than the person ruled by logic they should be, and that Setsu is.

  5. What is your character's most outstanding personality trait, and why?

  6. Thoughtfulness-- in more ways than one. Yuri is very emotionally sensitive and intuitive, a very heart on their sleeve kind of person. It means they can get along relatively well with strangers, are friendly and personable, and also want to help them if they need help... but they don't really have the confidence to be sure they understand how to help someone, or how to actually solve a problem. They second-guess themself a lot, and aren't terribly fast on the uptake; they're not stupid, but they really need to sit down and think things through to get to the right conclusion. Unfortunately, this takes time, and they often end up stuck in their own head because of it, trying to think things over multiple times to make sure they're not missing some angle, and completely forgetting that someone may be talking to them. Their thought process is painstakingly thorough, and even still, they often miss a detail or the big picture, and need input from someone else's perspective to completely connect the dots.
Still, their slow thought process doesn't affect the genuine care and kindness they express to the people around them... when they're not stuck in their head and under the pressure of logic problems. In fact, they're a lot smarter when the logic requires knowledge of people, how they act, and what they care about, rather than pure logical theoreticals; it comes a lot more naturally to them, considering the raw human aspect.

  7. Your character gets to return home, but when they do they learn that they've been gone for hundreds of years. How do they react?

  8. It's a double-edged sword. They'd want to be grateful; logically, it's the best option for everyone. The real Yuri is long dead, and so their presence wouldn't destroy the universe. It hopefully means that everyone on the DQO was able to move on, and live their lives, without the Gnosia infecting the ship; whatever friends or family the real Yuri might've had before Liu-an's destruction aren't people he'd be entitled to, so now there's not even the temptation. But... they're an emotional person, easily attached to people they care about, and they've only ever known the people on the DQO. Without them, or even the mission Setsu gave them (surviving the time loops), they don't have much reason for having survived. Their lack of memories mean they wouldn't have anything to fall back on. They would certainly try to find something to do with their life, to move on and be grateful for being able to live at all, given their anomalous existence... but it would be hard for their heart to be into it. When left alone, they end up spiraling, and without any of the people they love around anymore, it's hard to say if they would snap out of it, or even care to. Maybe they would stick around long enough to try and find the traces of what their friends had gotten up to with the rest of their lives, because if nothing else, they learned from the Silver Key to take the value of knowledge to heart. But after that? They would prefer to quietly disappear.

🦋 Fae Court

  • Spring Court

  • Autumn Court

  • Winter Court

Ability: Do you want your character to gain the ability of their court? (Delete the other two options.)
2) Yes, they have an ability of their own to trade for it: Time Travel. so none of us have to deal with how it would work.
(If the ability doesn't count as theirs, since it's technically the Silver Key's, and wouldn't work in this setting anyway, then I'll take the ability with credit!)
